John Curry on underground poker scene in New York
Thursday Feb 04, 2021
Thursday Feb 04, 2021
John Curry is quite familiar with the underground poker scene in New York and Philadelphia. We talked about how those games are organized, how they are run, and what kind of risks everybody’s taking. John shares some crazy personal anecdotes from the time when he was involved in that business, like the story about armed robbery in the game he was running. Expect plenty of fun facts and degen stories.
John is the author of We Run Bad. The story is set right after the housing market crash in the US. There are some really good anecdotes from the underground poker scene, some great characters. It’s dark, it’s funny and I really enjoyed it. I think most poker players would like this book, so check it out here https://amzn.to/3cEzxox

Friday Nov 13, 2020

David Sklansky is one of the top authorities on the topic of gambling, author of several hugely successful books. He coined several commonly used terms - such as semi-bluff, implied odds, effective odds. Many of the poker theory concepts that David came up with 40 years ago are still relevant in your games today and maybe forever. He has rubbed shoulders with many of the greats in the industry. Poker players, casino owners, businessmen. In this conversation, David shares some great anecdotes from his encounters with Bob Stupak, Steve Wynn, Donald Trump, and many more. And we also talk about some big stories about cheating and collusion in live games throughout the years. David lifts the curtain up on what’s been happening in Vegas in the 70s and 80s when the gambling industry there was still pretty much a wild-west.
